The formula

Dimethylacetamide (DMAc or DMA) is the organic compound with the formula CH3C(O)N(CH3)2. This colorless, water-miscible, high boiling liquid is commonly used as a polar solvent in organic synthesis. DMA is miscible with most other solvents, although it is poorly soluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons.

1. It is used as an intermediate for organic synthesis (modified polyamides, corrosion inhibitors, fuel additives, epoxy curing agents, fabric softeners and adhesion promoters) and saponification agent for acidic materials. It is used as a solvent for sulfur, acidic gas, resin and as a fuel and oil field component

2. Chelating agents to form complexes with certain metal ions to prevent the ions from interfering with processing or to promote buffering, concentration, separation, or transport

3. Corrosion inhibitors to slow corrosion in petroleum production operations
